Rolling Admissions? Absolutely!
Just because the new year has arrived, doesn’t mean it’s too late for your student to apply to private school! With rolling admissions, there is still time for your student to apply and be accepted at a private school worthy of supporting them.
In this article you’ll find everything you need to know about rolling admissions.
What is Rolling Admissions?
When a school has rolling admissions it means they don’t have a fixed application deadline. It’s more common than you’d think for schools (especially boarding schools) who use rolling admissions to offer a mid-year enrollment to students during the middle of the school year. This means that if it’s best for your student and family, they can transition to a new school before the end of the academic year.
If your student hasn’t yet started their application process, now is the time to find schools who can be a great fit for your student. If there is a school your student is particularly interested in and they don’t have mid-year spots available, we always recommend continuing to apply as part of the rolling admissions process. Doing so may afford your student a spot for the traditional fall enrollment start date instead, so it’s always a good idea!
Important Elements of Rolling Admissions
If you and your student decide it is best to use a school’s rolling admission process, there are a few things you should keep in mind:
All the usual steps within the admissions process such as the interview, essays, and letters of recommendations still apply during rolling admissions.
Just because your student applied via rolling admissions doesn’t mean the school has the capacity to accept them.
Pay attention to deadlines. The rolling admissions process might seem like there might not be any fixed deadlines, but that’s not always the case. For example, if your student needs to apply for financial aid, make sure you know the schools’ application deadlines to be considered for financial aid.
Know that financial aid is limited. The sooner you apply for financial aid, the better as most school’s financial aid is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Rolling admissions is a great option if you’ve found a private school that can support your student’s needs. If your goal is to have a private school placement for your student for the fall, it’s best to apply to boarding school as soon as you can.
